Public and Private schools

I was just reading a article about a school board in Seatle that was prohibiting a teacher to show Al Gore’s movie on global warming. I myself have not yet had the chance to view this movie, but the reasoning behind it is completley bogus. Parents do not feel their students should view a movie that is un-truthful and does not show christian views. Im sorry, but between the moaning about this, and evolution being taught in school, i cant deal with it. I understand that this goes against what some people believe religion wise and they dont want science to pervert the minds of their children, but there is private schools for that, which are made to serve those that believe in those was, and even in public schools there is christians clubs,  i dont see how this arguement continues. If they are watching that, they must be in high school, and by then, the almost adult students can make their mind up about the issue. And if they dont want to watch it, thats fine, but dont use christian propaganda to keep it from those that do believe it and would like to learn about it. Pay for your children to go to private schools where it wont even be brought up.  if someone went to a private school and said they wanted to teach evolution they would be shown to the door, and yet it cant even be taught in a public school. How is it that the mind set ” christanity is the one religion” is getting so much popularity. It is not the “one” true religion. Religion is what you make it, and if you cant even accept other people’s beliefes you dont deserve to call yourself, christian, jew, muslim, what ever you are, you cant say taht someone else is wrong and expect other people to bow down to you and not speak their minds, while you push your beliefe on them, its just not going to happen.

ok michael i’ll give you a more detailed response in a post on my site in a few, however i’ll hit on a few key points right here.

first of all, the majority of conservative christians who ask that evolution not be taught in school don’t ask that evolution not be taught in its entirety, but that it be taught as a theory and that the theory of creation be equally presented, which in my personal opinon is entirely fair and not unreasonable. if science teachers are so confident in the merits of evolution then why not agree to teach a differing opinion…scared that people may see the truth in a different way than you?

second of all, christian clubs are not like cults where we all get together and plot our worldtakeover, they are also not some room where we can all get together and talk about creation…there is muchmore to that, and while i’m on this type of subject it should be noted that scientists are the ones who made this such a huge deal to begin with.

third of all, private schools are not meant just for those who dont agree with things that are taught in the public school system…the majority of them, christian and non follow the same standard course of study as the rest of america, some do choose to not teach evolution which is their right but for you to say that students who do not agree with evolution and choose toprotest it belong in private school is unfair and unjustifiable.

fourthly, i’m assuming its a typo when you say “if someone went to a private school and said they wanted to teach evolution they would be shown to the door, and yet it cant even be taught in a public school”….because lasttime i checked evolution was the ONLY form of life origin being taught at Northern and the majority of other schools in the nation…yes?

fifthly, i have no clue what kind of experiance you must have had which caused this hate for all things religion in your life, but the statements which you made are unfair, rude, unjustified and hurtful to me personally. i consider myself, and the majority of other christians that i know, to be pretty openminded people…and i know that i for one do not expect anyone to “bow down to me” or anything of that nature. i do not believe that my “religion” as you like to call it warrants me being above anyone else or anything of the sort. do i claim to live a perfect life? no, not by anymeans, but what you said is pretty much completely untrue in regards to the christians that i know, including myself. and i was personally hurt by that statement.

sixthly and finally, you say…… “what ever you are, you cant say taht someone else is wrong and expect other people to bow down to you and not speak their minds, while you push your beliefe on them, its just not going to happen.”…..michael, thats exactly what you are doing in the above post. i mean come on bro, you’re basicully saying that all non evolutionists who want their child taught another point of view on life origin are wrong….is it just me or does that make it seem like you are forcing your beliefs on them and asking them to give in to your opinion?

with as long of a comment as that was i dont think i’ll post on my blog…call me at home during the day on monday or we can talk about it at school on tuesday, but trust, we’re talking.

    l8er bro,

    Justin

  2. i was not trying to offend you, and i do not mean to make it seem like im looking down on religion, was staying this is how the people at this school board were treating the issue and i was not trying to make it sound as if i was directing an assult on chstian values. im sorry, i was not trying to make it sound so rude. i will see you tommorrow.

i mean i can understand that you didn’t want to come across as being rude and all that but it was beyond that michael, your facts were wrong and your statements were wide and unjustified….so it wasn’t just rude, it was wrong. i’ll see you in a few minutes.
